What’s in Season for Fall?
What’s in Season for Fall?
There are so many fruits and vegetables in season in the autumn–some of the usual suspects, but also a few that might surprise you. Read on for some of our favorites and the recipes you should make with each.
If there’s one food we all associate with fall, it’s probably the sweet potato. But regular potatoes are in season, too, and there is a difference in the flavor of your French fries when you make them with in-season produce. Our easy herb French fries are bursting with flavor any time of year, but they’re at their best between September and November.
Alongside potatoes and sweet potatoes, beets and carrots shine brightest in the fall. And there’s hardly a better place for them than our easy, nourishing and healthy root vegetable toss, which requires minimum work but yields maximum flavor. It’s our go-to on cool fall evenings and we promise it’ll become yours, too.
If you’re unfamiliar with celery root, allow us to introduce you, because fall is the season to try it. Not to be confused with its more popular counterpart, green celery, celery root is a root vegetable that offers up an earthy flavor. It all comes to life in this soup, best served on a crisp fall afternoon alongside some herby, buttered toast.
One of the most versatile vegetables there is, cauliflower is certainly having a moment. It’ll be at peak freshness in the fall, and this recipe is the perfect place to try it, especially in contrast to the autumnal flavors of pomegranate and hazelnut. It’s the perfect side for any fall dinner party.
If you’ve ever struggled to enjoy kale, it may just be that you’re not trying it at the right time. Fall is the season for it–and these rice cakes make snacking on it a treat.
