Quick Late Winter & Spring Getaways
Quick Late Winter & Spring Getaways
And our go-to isn’t google, it’s Ahl Collective founder Sophia Sloan, who has planned countless fabulous trips and always gives us under-the-radar spots for our next destination.
From December to March, head to Megeve, France. It’s an easy, 1-hour trip from Zurich, and, generally, you can find reasonable flights there. There’s a buzzy après scene there, but not so buzzy it’s overwhelming (a far cry from some of the crowded American spots, but we won’t name names). The town itself is chic, with fabulous places to stay.
If you’re splurging, stay at Chalet Zannier. If you’re after a fabulous dining program, ops for Les Fermes de Marie. Both hotels can be pricey depending on the dates, so if you’re after a more budget-friendly option, renting a chalet with friends on Airbnb is a failsafe option.
Speaking of après, for live jazz after dinner (at Les Fermes, preferably), head to Club Les 5 Rues.
Best time to go: early March! Avoid later in the ski season as it’s a sunny resort, so springtime snow can occasionally mean slush.
For a warm-weather April escape, head to Nosara, Costa Rica. It’s actually great all winter through April–which is the dry season over there.
For a yoga & health-centric stay (it’s an absolute haven if you love those kinds of things), stay at Harmony Hotel.
If you’d prefer a small villa, Sendero is the ticket, and if you’d like something larger, Airbnb is always an option.
For an off-season steal: Marbella in late April or early May. Nestled in Southern Spain, Marbella is a certified hotspot in the summer, but it’s a steal during this time of year; while it’s chilly in the evenings, late spring is warm enough for the pool fairly consistently! There are amazing sightings all within driving distance (Jerez and Granada come to mind), and there’s a fabulous day trip you can take to Tangier (it’s a stone’s throw from Morocco), if you want to do some shopping and camel-riding!
Stay at the iconic Marbella Club Hotel.
For a scenic adventure: April and May are the best months to head to Big Bend National Park in Texas, where you can catch some gorgeous cacti blooms! Visiting this spot involves a lot of driving, but if you’re willing to explore, you’ll find tons of unique towns on the road trip down. They aren’t necessarily action-packed (life is slow down there, in a good way), but it feels like traveling into a dusty cowboy film; it’s a unique piece of Americana absolutely worth seeing.
Favorite spots to stay: The Gage Hotel in Marathon and The Willow House in Terlingua (think a more rustic, authentic, affordable Amangiri). Both are gems with unique architecture and style.
For a secret spot you might want to gatekeeper, go to Cumberland Island, Georgia, and stay at the Greyfield Inn, the only commercial property on the island. April is nice and warm, and May is pure beach weather. It’s great for couples who want to hunker down, go on nature walks, kayak, read, and relax; but it’s equally great for families and friends that want to spend a ton of time outside, with great fishing, easy to moderate hiking, and plenty of biking trails.
