We firmly believe there are two types of people in this world: those who feel saddened by the end of summer and those who, years after they’ve graduated, are energized by the “back-to-school” feeling that each fall brings.

As avid nesters, it should come as no surprise that Casa de Suna falls squarely in the second camp. And if you’re not quite there yet, no worries; we’re here to share some tips on how to make your home the ultimate autumnal sanctuary. We promise you won’t even miss the beach.

Change Out Your Throw Pillows & Blankets

As the weather cools down, we like to spend as much time as we can curled up on the couch; so it’s crucial to make sure we’ve got the chicest possible throw pillows and blankets to support an afternoon in. Our current favorite brand if you’re looking to splurge is Saved NY. With a tiny shop just off Gramercy Park in New York, their unique designs make the perfect subtle statement (and those among us who do still miss summer can nod to the season with their gorgeous seashell pillow).

For beautiful and intricate mid-range options, Lulu & Georgia has a gorgeous selection (for the funkier living room, we love this velvet option, and you can’t go wrong with their classic throws).

Those looking for a budget-friendly option will be delighted to learn that, though rarely talked about on this side of the pond, H&M Home has options for every taste. We love this quilted topper for an afternoon spent reading on the couch with a candle burning and a cup of tea, and no one will believe you when you tell them these pillows come in at under $20.

Layer in Seasonal Candles

Once you’ve set your aesthetic tone, the next step is the accents. As the weather gets cooler, there’s nothing better than burning a beautiful candle. While it’s ubiquitous during this time of year, we’re not exactly partial to pumpkin spice; favoring more complex scents that fill a room without feeling cloying. Speaking of complex, our current favorite candle is Byredo’s Burning Rose. While rose might seem like a summer scent, Byredo’s take mixes rose with woods and leather; a combination that means the scent strikes the perfect balance between a pretty floral and a sexier masculine scent. Maison Louis Marie’s Bois de Balincourt No. 04’s scent profile sits in a similar vein, with even more fall-friendly notes, such as nutmeg to round it out; this one smells how wearing the perfect cashmere sweater feels, and what could be cozier than that? Finally, we’ve mentioned it before, and are almost hesitant to mention it again because of how quickly it sells out, but Chateau Marmont’s signature scent is so unique, it’s impossible to describe – the perfect scent for a slow Saturday in.

Pair all of the above with Flying Bird Botanicals tea, some Earl Grey tea cake, and a good book and you’re set for the season.
