As cooler months descend upon us, and we all begin to retreat inside, there’s no easier aesthetic home improvement than adding a chic throw blanket to your living room or bedroom setup.

However, there are seemingly countless options for consideration, which often leaves us with so much choice, we end up with nothing at all. Lucky for you, we’ve taken the guesswork out of it for you and rounded up five (because there’s nothing more overwhelming than a 30-product roundup) perfect throws, all at different price points and styles, for you to consider incorporating into your home goods mix this fall.

The Splurge

I mean, we’ve all thought about it, haven’t we? We promise the rest of this roundup won’t lean this luxe, but we couldn’t in good conscience cull together a list of the world’s chicest throw blankets without dropping this gorgeous Hermès classic into the mix. So, if you happen to be pulling together a wedding registry or have found yourself with a spare $1,500, spend it with the knowledge that this will never go out of style.

How to Style: First things first: this is a conversation piece, not a blanket to be hidden away in the bedroom. Keep this draped over your living room couch and avoid visual clutter by keeping the pillows simple. The colorway we’ve recommended would look particularly good draped over a gorgeous deep brown sofa (or this one, if you’re seriously looking to splurge) and two cashmere pillows in Eggshell or pebble. To tie it all seamlessly together, scent the room with Maison Louis Marie’s sandalwood-rich No. 04 candle.

The Countryside Chic

Lusting after the splurge throw, but not quite ready to commit, financially? While you may know them better for their designer fashion collection, SSENSE offers the perfect throw that’s surprisingly perfect. It instantly evokes the feeling of being at a chic countryside retreat.

How to Style: Continue to riff on the equestrian-chic theme this throw evokes by throwing it on a sofa dotted with a set of velvet pillows in copper (pro tip: we look at copper and burnt orange as rich neutrals – there’s no better accent color for cultivating a “warm” atmosphere in a space like a living room) or allow it stand alone fabulously by folding at the end of a classic daybed. Light Matt Morris’ famously hard-to-find Ferula candle, with notes of sun-warmed soil and green stems to bring the countryside element home.

The Bohemian

If you’re leaning towards something a little more California cool, opt for Coyuchi’s take on the throw, crafted from the cool, intentionally wrinkled organic cotton that has started to feel synonymous with the Venice beach aesthetic. Throw it in your beach bag for a late-night bonfire once the weather starts to warm up again.

How to Style: Throw it over this chair, which is ubiquitous because of how perfectly versatile it is, in a light-filled room, or at the end of a platform bed fitted with a cloud white Parachute duvet. Bonus points for accessorizing with Vitruvi’s diffuser and filling it with their bergamot, basil, and eucalyptus-scented Pacific oil to create a true West Coast paradise, no matter where you are.

The classic

Classics earn that title for a reason, and this Sferra throw (and the brand in general) is no exception. Available in every color you’d think of decorating your home with this will please even the pickiest of home shoppers.

How to Style: This is a bedroom throw. Fold it either at the end of your bed, or over a reading chair. If you’d prefer to display your flashier blankets out in the open, this is also a great one to keep handy in a basket of blankets in the corner of your living room for guests, late-night television viewing, or extra-chilly winter mornings. Counter the timelessness of the blanket with a subversive scent: Malin + Goetz’s smoky and sexy Cannabis blend.

The Statement Throw

Those looking for a serious wow factor need look no further than Anthropologie’s Vanessa throw blanket – the perfect way to add some personality to a neutral space, or to take a maximalist paradise to the next level. Go ahead and mix prints, we dare you.

How to Style: If you’re going in this direction: commit. Take a cue from interiors favorite Beata Heummann by draping this throw over one of her bespoke chairs and mixing up prints by throwing her bolster cushion into the mix. Another Malin + Goetz favorite, Dark Rum, is guaranteed to add even more dimension to your newfound jungle paradise.
