While Valentine’s Day is ostensibly a holiday about love, for many, it comes with mixed feelings.

Some view it as a celebration of love in all forms and others simply consider it more of a marketing holiday, one that’s designed to make those who are single feel sad. We like to consider ourselves eternal optimists. While we understand and empathize with the plight of the Valentine’s Day skeptic, we’re not ones to pass up an opportunity to celebrate love – whether that’s self-love, romantic love, or the bond between friends or family.

While roses and chocolates have historically been the gift heroes of the day, we’ve decided to whip up a gift guide filled with somethings that are actually special–no matter who you’re gifting. And yes, we give you full permission to put yourself at the top of that list.

To send to your SO

If you’re asking for a gift from your significant other, why not opt for something both of you can use? A Once Milano Tasseled Throw is the perfect piece for cozying up on the couch with. And if you’re already on the couch, you might as well throw on a good movie – that’s where a Criterion Collection gift subscription might come in handy. Since no movie is complete without popcorn, they might as well get you the W&P popper too, right? Now there are multiple gifts that keep on giving.

For a Galentine’s gathering

Is there anything more special than a celebration of female friendship? We think not. And Galentine’s Day celebrations are the ultimate manifestation. Have your best girlfriends over for a viewing of Dolly Alderton’s Everything I Know About Love (she is the patron saint of female friendships, after all) alongside some spirit-free Palomas (or spirit-filled ones, whatever works for you!) and get ready to exchange some gifts. Our personal pick? Charm bracelets. They’re back in style and we couldn’t be happier about it. Buy each other (or yourselves) the bracelets, and you can gift each other charms for years to come. Might we suggest starting with the heart?

If you’re looking to treat yourself

If you’re treating yourself to something this Valentine’s Day, go all out with an item of clothing that’s guaranteed to make you feel good every time you throw it on. A serotonin boost takes sumptuous cashmere form in Alex Mill’s striped cardigan, while every single top from La Veste embodies the phrase “dopamine dressing.” More of a homewares fiend? Buy yourself some blob candles from Coming Soon.
