There’s nothing quite like strawberries and cream.

And we’ve found a way to make the summertime dessert staple healthy, delicious, and versatile enough for your everyday breakfast. Top with cream for extra indulgence and season with anise to add depth and warmth to the recipe.

Serves: 4

Ingredients

Strawberries

  • 1 pkg (12 oz / 340 g) strawberries, stems removed and quartered, about 2 ¼ cups
  • 2 tbsp good-quality honey
  • ½ tsp lemon zest, plus extra for serving

Oats

  • 3 cups water
  • 1½ cups steel cut oats

  • 2 star anise
  • ¼ tsp kosher salt
  • 1½ tsp granulated sugar

Instructions
  1. For the strawberries, gently stir berries with honey and lemon zest in a medium bowl. Set aside.
  2. For the oats, combine water with oats, milk, cream, star anise and salt in a large pot. Boil, then reduce heat to medium and simmer, stirring occasionally, until oats are tender, 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in sugar.
