Skincare & Haircare Swaps for Colder Weather
Skincare & Haircare Swaps for Colder Weather
Every year, we promise ourselves we’ll properly prepare our vanities by creating a checklist that walks through every item we need to swap out, and this year, we’re finally doing it: creating a comprehensive checklist for you, so you have exactly what you need to enter and exit the season with glowing, hydrated skin and shiny, bouncy hair intact.
Cream and gel cleansers are totally fine in the cooler weather, but come winter, our skin needs a serious hydration hero–that won’t clog pores. That’s where the Elemis Cleansing Balm comes in. As luxurious as a trip to the spa, this balm is made with nourishing botanicals that will wipe off your makeup in one fell swoop without clogging your pores. Yes, it’s worth the price tag.
If you’re anything like us, you know that, come winter, light moisturizers are no match for dry, flaky skin. This is where face oil comes in: we tend to use it all year round, but in winter, we really lean in. It’s no secret that we’re big fans of LINNÉ Botanicals, and we find ourselves seriously stocking up on the Repair oil between December and March.
Speaking of oil, what if we told you we had a sunscreen for you that not only provided the typical sun protection you know and love SPF for, but also serious skincare benefits thanks to the inclusion of nourishing botanicals? Well, Anna’s been a longtime fan of Le Prunier’s Plumscreen, and she’s gotten everyone at Casa de Suna obsessed. It’s deeply nourishing and packed with the same antioxidant-rich, glow-boosting botanicals from Le Prunier’s famous Plum Beauty Oil. SPF with a side of radiance? We’ll take it.
Even with the best possible prep, there are inevitable moments when the usual skincare suspects just don’t cut it. Whether it’s a long-haul flight to a holiday destination or getting a bit too merry at a festive cocktail party, ultra-parched skin requires a serious hero product. That’s where May Lindstrom’s Blue Cocoon comes in. Yes, it’s blue, but don’t be fooled: it sinks into the skin and is perfect for those SOS moments. Want to spend a little less? Cerabalm does the trick and is benefits-packed, too.
Do not forget to upgrade your makeup in the winter! We’re all about a glassy glow and pouty lips, which means avoiding any products that will dry out your skin! Be sure your foundation is either ultra-hydrating or easy to mix with moisturizer (or simply replace your foundation with concealer for a lighter-touch look) and ensure all of your lipstick is hydrating so there’s no creasing–Bisou Balm is fabulous for this.
Never neglect your extremities–there’s nothing worse than cracked, dry hands and feet. We keep Soft Services Theraplush by our bedside for overnight moisturization, and–don’t judge us–these gel socks on our feet.
When it comes to hair, ours gets far more tangled in the winter, which is why we keep a mini Crown Affair Leave-In Conditioner on hand in every bag we own. In terms of combating a dry, flaky scalp, we make a weekly routine out of the unbeatable Goop G.Tox Salt Scrub, followed by Crown Affair’s nourishing-but-not-heavy Renewal Mask for the softest possible strands.
That’s all for winter skincare! If you follow these tips or buy any of these products, let us know which one is your fave, by tagging us on social media using @casa.de.suna.
