There are so many things to love about summer, but one of them is the extra vacation time and opportunity for warm-weather travel.

Here at Casa de Suna, we’re located all over the U.S. and Canada, so we’ve rounded up some of our favorite North American summer spots for you to enjoy, from North to South, and Coast to Coast. Bon voyage!

Northeast

Lake Placid

Here’s a fun fact: the word vacation was invented in the Adirondacks. Hundreds of years ago, New York and Boston’s elite would “vacate” the summer heat of the city in favor of the fresh air and pristine lakes of the Adirondack Mountains. Centuries later, the enclave is still just as relaxing, with modern upgrades that make it the perfect place for spending a long weekend.

Our Adirondack town of choice? Lake Placid. Those looking to relax can recline on Mirror Lake’s sandy shores or indulge in one of the stellar treatments at Mirror Lake Inn’s world-renowned spa. But if you’re in pursuit of more active experiences, you’ll have your pick of water sports and hiking and biking trails–and, no matter how you spend your day, you can all agree to meet up for a delicious, local meal at Salt of the Earth Bistro come evening.

Finger Lakes

Who says you need to travel to Northern California for a wine country fix? Upstate New York’s Finger Lakes region has long been an underrated locale for some of the best vineyards and wines in the Northeast. Stop by Seneca Lake’s Lamoreaux Landing Wine Cellar to sip on some of their award-winning varietals with a stunning view to match. Not a wine person? Not a problem. Head over to Canandaigua Lake for a long weekend at The Lake House, a picture-perfect waterfront retreat with 124 gorgeously-appointed rooms that’s been voted one of the world’s top 100 hotels.

South

Smoky Mountains

Summer in the Smoky Mountains can get hot, but there’s no better place to enjoy it than Tennessee’s beautiful and luxurious Blackberry Farm. Whether you’re looking to hone your archery skills, or survey the mountains on a horseback ride, or even just unwind by the luxurious outdoor pool, it’s the perfect place for creating the summer vacation of your dreams.

Midwest & West

Jackson Hole, WY

Though Jackson Hole is one of the West’s most sought-after wintertime ski resorts, summer in Jackson is even more picturesque. If you’re looking for a seriously luxurious place to stay, Amangani has you covered. Spend the day fishing, hiking, or biking, and then unwind in the resort’s pool while taking in the incredible mountain view. For a more budget-friendly option, choose The Anvil Hotel, a boutique hotel in town within walking distance to some of our favorite spots. Be sure to grab a morning coffee at Persephone Bakery or start your day with a hot yoga class at Inversion before taking in all the town has to offer.

Mackinac Island, MI

The Midwest’s best-kept secret, you’d never know looking at Mackinac Island’s turquoise waters that it’s actually located in the heart of Michigan. This charming, car-free town is perfect for couples, friend groups, and families alike–rent some bikes to ride to the famous fudge shops, and put your feet up at the end of the day at the iconic Grand Hotel.
