Stylish and sophisticated, the old-fashioned was already one of our favorite drinks.

But we decided to take things to the next level, by replacing the whisky with a mix of mezcal and tequila. Think: margarita with old world flavor. If you want something a bit milder, go for ½ cup of tequila and 2 tbsp mezcal–but, if you can handle the extra smokiness, by all means: go for it.

How to Make It

Difficulty: Easy

Overall Time: 5 min

Prep Time: 5 min

Serves: 2

Ingredients
  • ⅓ cup Reposado tequila
  • ¼ cup Mezcal
  • 4 dashes angostura bitters
  • 1 tbsp agave syrup
  • 2 strips of orange peel
Instructions
  1. Fill a cocktail shaker or large jar with ice. Add tequila, mezcal, bitters, and then agave. Stir with a long bar spoon until shaker is frosty, about 1 minute.
  2. Fill two rocks glasses halfway with ice. Strain mezcal mixture into glasses. Twist a strip of orange peel over each glass to release oils, and then drop peel in glass.

How to enjoy it

If you want to use honey instead of agave, use a runny honey and combine with ½ tbsp warm water in a small bowl. Stir until honey dissolves into a thin syrup.
