Summer is about to get filed away, but there’s one thing left to do before that happens: host your best soiree yet.
With Labor Day around the corner, it’s hands down the perfect opportunity to do just that. And we’re here to help if you haven’t done much planning. Below, we put together a simple guide that brings your friends and family together for a perfect end-of-summer party. From simple recipes to themed ideas, you’ll be able to have more fun in the sun and stress less when the time comes.

1. Keep it outdoors
Don’t start breaking out the sweaters just yet. Summer isn’t officially over until late September, but Labor Day is your last chance to make the most of balmy days (and nights). That’s why we love the idea of celebrating outdoors. Nothing beats the fresh air and a dreamy sunset all in good company (with delicious bites and refreshing drinks).
2. Bring the inside out
When it comes to outdoor hosting, you want to make sure there’s plenty of space for all your guests to sit. Patio furniture is great, but you should also consider throwing a little picnic vibe into the mix. Think large woven mats and thick blankets placed in the grass with cushy poufs and pillows sprinkled in.
3. Pick a theme
Chances are you’re thinking about a patriotic themed party. But, it doesn’t have to stop there. We also love a sit-down, candlelit dinner, game day, or a fancy brunch. Don’t be afraid to go the simple route either. String lights or candles with a curated playlist can work wonders.
4. Keep your cool bar stocked
Once you’ve settled on a theme, it’s time to focus on food and drinks. A party just wouldn’t be the same without some fruity cocktails and a bottle of wine (or two…).. 5. Perfect a few appetizers

6. Power up the grill
Hosting a holiday party can be messy and a lot of work. So when it comes to food, we prefer dishes that can be cooked on the grill. Steak and burgers may be the standard, but you can take it up a notch with kabobs, shrimp tacos, or grilled scallops. (Added bonus: these options are great for guests with dietary restrictions.) If you want to keep it casual or keep your plans open, ask your guests to bring a dish for a barbecue potluck.
