Brand Spotlight: Ordinary Habit
Brand Spotlight: Ordinary Habit
And Ordinary Habit is leading the charge.
Much like Casa de Suna itself, Ordinary Habit is a mother-daughter operation, founded by Teresa and Echo Hopkins. As the name suggests, Ordinary Habit was founded on the ethos that regular routines could–and should–be transformed into transformative rituals.
The Hopkins’ used their collective artistic prowess (Teresa has a background in graphic design, while Echo studied Art History) to collaborate with independent artists on pieces that were more than just projects to finish–they were portable art. Teresa contacted artists she admired to see if they would commission works for the brand. Clearly, the admiration was mutual: collaborations include internationally renowned creators, from Italian illustrator Lidia Ziruffo, German digital artist Josephine Rais to Amsterdam-based designer Bodil Jane, among many others. Each puzzle depicts a different relaxing scene, and the sizes range from 100 to 1,000 pieces. Ordinary Habit has since expanded beyond puzzles into sets of matching cards, a simple, portable game intended to spark joy on the go.
Teresa and Echo’s commitment to mindful moments–and their positive impact on mental health–goes beyond their proposed puzzle ritual. They donate a portion of all of their sales to the Loveland Foundation, a charity “committed to showing up for communities of color in unique and powerful ways, with a particular focus on Black women and girls.” Time spent on an Ordinary Habit puzzle is more than just a relaxing ritual–it’s a way to give back.
