The Ready-Mades
If you’ve been reading Casa de Suna for a while, you’ll know we’re big fans of Figlia. We interviewed the founder, Lily Geiger, for her
Dry January tips back in the day, and got her take on
sober celebrations, not long after that. She dropped some serious wisdom as far as her favorite mocktails, so we’re resharing some of it here–and adding some of our personal favorites.
For when you’re at a bar that doesn’t serve mocktails
Order a “bitters and soda.” Bitters have a small amount of alcohol, so they’re not great for everyone, but if you’re a casual non-drinker, the alcohol content amounts to roughly ⅛ of a drink, so you won’t get buzzed–or hungover.
If you want a non-alcoholic beer
Geiger’s favorite non-alcoholic beer is from a brand called
Visitor, and if that seal of approval isn’t enough–you’re going to want to check out the ultra-sleek packaging. We also love
Athletic Brewing, which is available at tons of restaurants and bars these days. It seriously tastes like the real thing.
For a funkier flavor
If you’re an orange wine fan looking for a booze-free alternative, the Geiger-approved
Unified Ferments might be just up your street. Made from fermented teas (so, yes, ideal for kombucha fans, too) and bottled like your favorite natural one, the site not only offers detailed flavor notes, but also pairing and serving suggestions. With six unique flavors on the site, why not host a tasting?
For a one-and-done mocktail can
We’d be remiss not to include a can of pre-batched
Figlia spritz in this roundup; it’s our personal favorite. Ideal for bringing to the beach, the park, the party, or simply sipping at home in front of the TV and some blasting A/C, you can’t really go wrong with Figlia–and you’ll feel great the next day, too.
If you want to make something
If ready-mades aren’t your thing, or you’re looking for a more creative mixing endeavor, start with simple syrups. Make a
mint simple syrup by mixing 1 cup water, 1 cup sugar, and 1 cup fresh mint leaves; bring to a boil, simmer and then let sit. Do the same
with lavender, except sub 1 cup mint for 2.5 tablespoons lavender. Then, mix either of them with our
lemonade concentrate and some seltzer. There you have it: one mint lemonade mocktail, one lavender lemonade mocktail, and no alcohol between them.
There you have it! Our favorite ways to enjoy the summer, no alcohol required. Cheers!
