Start with a statement tablecloth
In our opinion, the best Fourth of July parties take place around a picnic table. If you have access to an outdoor dining setup, great! If not, no worries–you can totally recreate this indoors too.
It all starts with a statement tablecloth. Our personal favorite is this mustard number from
Hawkins New York; it’s an unexpected pick for a holiday that spotlights red, white, and blue–but it plays perfectly off the other colors we’re going to be working with for our tablescape, so just trust us here.
From there, you’ll want to set each place with a placemat. Because fourth of July food is grill-focused (read: handheld and occasionally messy), the more durable, the better.
These Ferm Living options are durable enough to do the job, and they cover the blue-and-white bases as far as patriotic color blocking goes.
We’re not forgetting napkins, don’t worry. Hawkins’
essential dinner napkins in ivory are the most versatile pick, and we like using the
matching cocktail napkins in lieu of coasters.
Set your centerpiece
As far as a
piéce de rèsistance goes, it’s difficult to top the
Maison Madison Home Jane Rectangular Tray. Yes, it’s gorgeous, but it’s also perfectly functional, ideal for throwing whatever you’ve grilled straight on so your guests can help themselves. We’d recommend buying two to ensure you have enough room to properly plate.
And as far as personal plating goes,
these gingham plates are our absolute go-tos when we want to bring the essence of summer into our tableware–it doesn’t get sweeter than gingham, and these plates are both adorable and chic at once. We love them so much, we also serve sides and desserts on
these matching mini plates.
Go for unexpected glassware
We’re obsessed with the way bubbled glassware evokes the ocean, and that’s why we serve drinks in it all summer long. These
Ferm Living Oli Water Glasses look perfect when paired with the Maison Madison placemats, and their
wine glasses are equally fabulous.
Curate a cool cocktail setup
Sophie Lou Jacobsen is the undisputed master of cocktail cool, which is why we love mixing up our
strawberry Italian sodas in her stunning
squiggle pitcher and serving them in glasses from the
fritter cocktail set–the very best thing about this set, besides the fact that it looks gorgeous, is that the coaster bottoms double as lids for when it’s buggy outside and you’re not quite ready to finish your drink.
That’s all for our tablescape tips! If you follow our recipes, and curate
a perfect playlist, we promise you’ll have the best day ever.
