Mom's Strawberry Sauce

How to Make It

Serves: Makes 1 cup

INGREDIENTS
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 small piece of lemon rind
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Add strawberries, sugar, lemon juice, and lemon rind to a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the sugar dissolves and the strawberries begin to break down, about 7 to 10 minutes.
  2. Let the mixture bubble for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.
  3. Remove from heat. Discard the lemon rind. If using vanilla, stir it in now.
  4. Serve warm or let cool completely before storing. Keeps in the fridge for up to a week.
