Everything You Need to Decorate a Small Outdoor Space

If you’re lucky enough to be working with a bit of outdoor space, capitalizing on it is crucial.

While there’s lots out there about how to adorn a large outdoor patio or a full setup with the best possible furniture, less has been said about making the most of those tiny corners or cute little balconies we sometimes find ourselves blessed with when we’re renting or living in a smaller space. We’re here to help you make those areas feel like the ultimate oasis.

Chaise Longue

Looking to create a reading nook of sorts? If you’ve got enough space for a chaise longue (yes, it’s called a longue, not a lounge), it’s a no-brainer. Since they’re statement pieces in their own right, we like keeping things simple, and this shell hue is perfect for just that.

Umbrella

Once you’ve got your longue set up, it’s time to ensure you’re properly shaded. The right umbrella is everything in this scenario, and Business & Pleasure Co. are the ticket for these types of things. Our personal favorite is The Resort Market Umbrella, docked in this beautiful clamshell base.

Side table

You need somewhere nice to rest your book (and your drink), non? That’s where the side table comes in. We absolutely adore this simple wood option from Jenni Kayne, but if you’re feeling a bit more maximalist, go all in with this gorgeous mint green sculptural pick.

Mini table and chairs

There are a number of tacks you can take when it comes to outdoor table setups. Living with a significant other or beloved roommate and only need space for two? Go Parisian with a beautiful bistro table (and be sure to grab the matching chairs). If you’ve got room for a bit more, we’re totally enamored with this teak table and love the idea of bench seating on one side, and chairs on the other, restaurant style. Pro tip: get some cushions custom made for the chairs (or grab these or these) and bench for maximum comfort. Looks perfect with a Couleur Nature tablecloth on top.

Pillows for sitting on outside

If you’re feeling a bit less formal than that, there’s always our favorite bohemian option: outdoor cushions! Really, is there anything chicer? We love these reclining pillow loungers and their matching pool loungers are equally fabulous–bonus points that both are supportive for the back.
